On his first day in office, President Donald Trump signed a series of executive actions, undoing many policies of his predecessors and reinstating measures from his first term. In a ceremony at Capital One Arena, Trump drew cheers as he signed multiple orders, later moving to the Oval Office to continue the flurry of actions.
Among the most notable measures were the pardons of around 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6th Capitol insurrection, alongside plans to commute additional sentences. Trump also paused enforcement of a 2024 law that could have banned TikTok, a move he had sought during his first term.
In a sweeping reversal of Biden-era policies, Trump rescinded 78 executive actions covering a broad range of issues, including immigration, racial equity, and climate policy. He signed new orders aimed at reducing inflation, improving national security, and bolstering American worker prosperity.
Trump also focused heavily on immigration, declaring a national emergency at the southern border, deploying military resources, and reinstating the “Remain in Mexico” policy. His actions included suspending refugee admissions, halting birthright citizenship, and enhancing vetting of foreign nationals.
Other orders addressed the death penalty, a freeze on federal hiring, and the reinstatement of the Paris Climate Accord withdrawal. Trump also moved to end federal diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, while emphasizing a return to in-person work for federal employees.
Further executive actions are expected in the coming days, with Trump signaling additional measures on border security, energy policy, and gender identity.
