Ten people were killed and 32 injured in a fire early Tuesday at a hotel in a popular Turkish ski resort in the northwestern province of Bolu, Agence France-Presse reported, citing the Interior Ministry.
The fire broke out at 3:27 a.m. (0027 GMT) at the 12-story wood-clad hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort, Ali Yarlikaya X said.
The Grand Kartal Hotel is located on top of a hill. The fire, which is believed to have started in the restaurant section around midnight, quickly spread.
Firefighters quickly intervened, Yerlikaya said. It was not immediately clear what caused the fire.
Television footage showed smoke rings rising into the sky with a snow-capped mountain behind the hotel.
Local media said 234 people were staying at the hotel, and the occupancy rate was between 80 and 90 percent due to the current school holidays.
