Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the second son of former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) this morning (25 January) in Beliatta.

Police Spokesperson Buddika Manatunga said the arrest was made following the Attorney General’s instructions, as there is sufficient evidence to arrest Yoshitha Rajapaksa under the Money Laundering Act No. 6 of 2005.

Further action against the suspect will be taken under the Penal Code

Yoshitha Rajapaksa was recently questioned by the CID regarding a case involving a house in Kataragama. The property, allegedly owned by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, was reportedly constructed through illegal means during Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s tenure as Defence Ministry Secretary.
