Customs Seizes Rs. 31.5 Million Worth of Smuggled Cigarettes

A consignment of 420,000 illegally imported cigarettes has been seized by the Sri Lanka Customs Revenue Task Force (RTF) during a special inspection at a warehouse within the Colombo Port premises.

The contraband was hidden inside 20 barrels of calcium hydroxide imported from the United Arab Emirates by a company based in Kalutara, according to Customs Media Spokesperson and Additional Director General Seevali Arukgoda.

The estimated value of the seized cigarettes is Rs. 31.5 million.

Further investigations are ongoing under the supervision of the Director General of Sri Lanka Customs.
