Traffic Plan for Independence Day Rehearsals Announced

In preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on 4 February 2025, the Colombo Traffic Division has announced a special traffic plan to manage vehicle flow around Independence Square.

The traffic plan will be in effect during the rehearsal periods, which are scheduled from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM on the following dates:

• 29th January 2025
• 30th January 2025
• 31st January 2025
• 1st February 2025
• 2nd February 2025

During these rehearsal times, several key roads in Cinnamon Gardens will be closed to facilitate event preparations:

• Wijerama Mawatha to Vidya Mawatha
• Bauddhaloka Mawatha to Maitland Place
• Bauddhaloka Mawatha to Prema Keerthi De Alwis Mawatha
• Stanley Wijesundara Mawatha to Foundation Road
• Independence Roundabout to Independence Square
• Horton Place to Maitland Crescent Junction towards Independence Roundabout
• R.G. Senanayake Mawatha to Maitland Crescent towards Independence Roundabout
• Entrance to Maitland Crescent from Independence Roundabout

The Police Media Division has assured that efforts will be made to minimise disruptions for vehicles accessing government and private institutions in the area. Vehicles will be allowed to pass through designated routes to avoid conflicts with rehearsal duties.

The Colombo Traffic Division requests all residents and commuters to plan their travel accordingly and cooperate with authorities to ensure smooth traffic management during the rehearsals leading up to the national celebration.
