Indictments have been filed against Namal Rajapaksa at the Colombo High Court over the alleged misappropriation of Rs. 70 million granted by Krrish Lanka Pvt. Ltd., an Indian real estate company, for the development of rugby in Sri Lanka, the Attorney General’s Department said today (28 January).

The prosecution alleges that Krrish Lanka Pvt. Ltd. provided Rs. 70 million to support the development of rugby in Sri Lanka. The funds were reportedly handed over to Ceylon Premium Sports President Nimal Hemasiri Perera, who is accused of transferring the money to Rajapaksa on two separate occasions.

Initial investigations conducted by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) revealed that the money had been remitted to a HSBC bank account belonging to Perera before being passed on to Rajapaksa.

The complaint was first lodged by Wasantha Samarasinghe, then a JVP Member of Parliament, alleging that the funds were misappropriated and not utilised for the intended purpose of promoting rugby in the country.
