Australian opener Usman Khawaja scored his maiden double century in Test cricket on the second day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.
He achieved it by taking a single off Prabath Jayasuriya. Earlier, Khawaja shared a 266-run partnership for the third wicket with Steve Smith, in which both completed centuries.
Khawaja became the first Australian to score a double century in Asia after Jason Gillespie scored 201 against Bangladesh.
Before him, only a handful of Australians had achieved this feat: Matthew Hayden (201* against India in Chennai in 2001), Dean Jones (210* against India in the famous Test match in Madras in 1986), Greg Chappell (235* against Pakistan in Faisalabad in 1980), and Mark Taylor (334* against Pakistan in Peshawar in 1998).
