The budget deficit for the 2025 fiscal year is projected at Rs. 2,200 billion, accounting for 6.7% of Sri Lanka’s GDP. The government’s total expenditure is estimated at Rs. 7,190 billion (21.8% of GDP), while total revenue and grants are expected to reach Rs. 4,990 billion (15.09% of GDP).
In the 79th budget since independence, the government has allocated Rs. 5,886 billion for recurring expenses, including subsidies and salary payments. Of this, Rs. 1,230 billion has been set aside for salaries and wages, while Rs. 1,290 billion is earmarked for subsidies and transfers.
