Monthly minimum wage in private sector to be increased to Rs. 30,000 by 2026

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that employers have agreed to increase the monthly minimum wage of private sector employees to Rs. 30,000 by 2026.

This will be done in two phases.

Accordingly, the monthly minimum wage is set to be increased to Rs. 27,000 with effect from April this year, from the current Rs. 21,000.

Under the second phase, the monthly minimum wage is set to be increased to Rs. 30,000 by 2026.

Meanwhile, the government has announced a salary increase for government employees, with the basic salary increasing from Rs. 24,250 to Rs. 40,000.

The salary increase will be implemented in three phases.
