All 80 people on board a Delta Air Lines flight that crashed while landing at Toronto Pearson Airport on Monday survived with minor injuries. The plane, which had come from Minneapolis, skidded onto a snow-covered tarmac and at least one wing detached.
Emergency services responded quickly and transported 18 passengers to nearby hospitals. Among the seriously injured were a child, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 40s. Toronto Pearson Airport CEO Deborah Flint praised the emergency response, noting that no lives were lost.
Delta Flight 4819, operated by Endeavour Air, was carrying 76 passengers and four crew members. The crash occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. ET, causing delays and cancellations across the airport.
Two runways were closed for several days while the Transportation Safety Board of Canada investigated. Flight operations resumed that afternoon.
The crash was caused by adverse weather conditions in the area, including blizzards and strong winds.
