Delta Air Lines is offering $30,000 each to passengers on a flight to Toronto.
It was not immediately clear how passengers would receive their money, but if Delta accepts its offer, it would have to pay out nearly $2.3 million.
Delta Care Group representatives are telling customers that the offer is “unconditional and does not affect their rights.”
Delta Flight 4819, which was approaching Toronto Pearson International Airport from Minneapolis, caught fire on landing and overturned on the runway at about 2:15 p.m. Monday.
The CRJ-900 was carrying 76 passengers and four crew members when the smoking plane came to a stop.
There were no fatalities, but 21 people were taken to local hospitals with injuries. Airport President and CEO Deborah Flint said none of the injuries were life-threatening.
As of Wednesday morning, all but one of the injured passengers had been released from the hospital, Delta said.
Toronto Pearson International Airport was experiencing clear weather conditions Monday, but winds of up to 40 mph were reported at the time of the crash, Flint said. Two storms in the days leading up to the crash dumped about 2 feet of snow at the airport, but no snowfall was recorded on radar at the time of the crash.
Flint cautioned against speculation and declined to answer questions about runway conditions.
The cause of the accident is still unclear. Officials said the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, with assistance from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, is investigating.
