Sri Lanka Cricket has fined Dasun Shanaka USD 10,000 for breaching the terms of his player contract with Sri Lanka Cricket.

The decision comes after Shanaka withdrew early due to an injury after playing for his local club in the Major Club Three-Day Tournament.

After the player submitted a medical certificate, Shanaka was recommended to rest and therefore did not participate in the remainder of the tournament.

However, he travelled to Dubai that same evening and participated in a Franchise League match.

This action was deemed to be a breach of several contractual clauses that require players to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and commitment to Sri Lanka Cricket.

During the investigation, Shanaka admitted his actions and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.

He clarified that he did not act with dishonest intent and assured Sri Lanka Cricket that he would exercise better judgment in the future.

Sri Lanka Cricket is committed to maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards and will continue to take necessary steps to protect the integrity of the game.
