Ven. Dr. Gallelle Sumanasiri Thero, who was appointed as Chancellor of Rajarata University on 10 February, has resigned from the position.

In his resignation letter to the President’s Secretary, the Thero stated that if his appointment had caused distress, disagreement, or disruption to the peace within the Maha Sangha, he valued that peace above holding the position.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake appointed Ven. Dr. Gallelle Sumanasiri Thero as Chancellor on 10 February 2025.

However, since the appointment, some parties who supported the former Chancellor Thero have published unfair statements in the media. Therefore, I decided to resign from the post to avoid disruption within the Sangha community,” the Thero said in the resignation letter.
