The riots erupted after former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s supporters attacked protesting civilians in front of Temple Trees and Galle Face, demanding the resignation of then-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

This was revealed by Chief Government Whip Nalinda Jayatissa in Parliament this evening (27 February).
