Two-time World Cup winner Steve Smith announced his retirement from one-day international cricket on Wednesday after leading Australia to a semi-final exit in the Champions Trophy

The 35-year-old, who was Australia’s top scorer with 73 in a four-wicket defeat to India in Dubai on Tuesday, said he would still be available for selection in Twenty20 Internationals and Tests.

“Now is a good time for people to start preparing for the 2027 World Cup, so it feels like the right time to skip it,” Smith said in a Cricket Australia statement.
