The Federation of Health Professionals has called off its planned token strike scheduled for tomorrow, 6 March, following discussions with Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, according to Joint Convenor Ravi Kumudesh.

Earlier, the trade unions had announced their decision to proceed with the strike, despite the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) withdrawing their protest after talks with the minister.

The unions had been protesting against cuts in health sector allowances introduced through the 2025 budget proposals, arguing that these reductions negatively impact their professions. They had repeatedly urged the government to address their concerns, but due to the lack of a response, they had planned a 24-hour strike.

However, following today’s discussions with Minister Jayatissa, the Federation of Health Professionals decided to call off the strike, indicating a possible resolution to their demands.
