Bangladesh veteran Mushfiqur Rahim on Wednesday (March 5) called an end to his one-day international cricket career.

Mushfiqur took to social media to announce his retirement, saying the past few weeks had been challenging with Bangladesh exiting the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy without a win.

“As of today, I announce my retirement from the one-day format,” Mushfiqur said in a statement.

“Our achievements at the global level may be limited, but one thing is certain: every time I step onto the field for my country, I have given more than 100% with dedication and integrity.”

Mushfiqur made his international debut in 2005 and his ODI debut came in 2006. Barely a year into his ODI career, he shocked Bangladesh on the global stage by scoring a brilliant 56* against India in the 2007 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Mushfiqur has won several awards in this format, leading his team in it. He has scored 7795 ODI runs in his 274 matches, which includes nine centuries and 49 half-centuries.

“The last few weeks have been very challenging for me, and I have realised that this is my destiny.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my family, friends and my fans, with whom I have played cricket for the past 19 years.”
