The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) is taking action against a tuition teacher seen beating students, Cabinet Spokesperson Nalinda Jayathissa said today (11).

“A civilized society will not accept this. We do not approve or justify such actions. The era of punishing students as a form of teaching is over. Also, do not give publicity to such activities,” Jayathissa told reporters.

Videos circulating on Facebook and other social media platforms show the teacher physically assaulting students, including forcing a female student to hit a male classmate.

Images have also surfaced on social media linking the teacher to the ruling National People’s Power (NPP) government. Some photos show him alongside President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, and other officials.
