As countries around the world emerge from the challenges of the pandemic, Sri Lanka is positioning itself as a leading tourism destination and aims to secure global partnerships to propel its tourism industry forward.
The government has outlined ambitious strategies to improve its tourism infrastructure, enhance service standards and create a sustainable ecosystem that benefits the economy and local communities.
Deputy Minister of Tourism Professor Ruwan Ranasinghe yesterday extended an open invitation to international tourism institutions, companies and organizations to collaborate with Sri Lanka on its transformation journey.
“We welcome you to experience the true and heartfelt hospitality of Sri Lanka,” said Professor Ranasinghe.
“By extending your support, you can be part of an inspiring success story while enjoying the unparalleled beauty, culture and warmth that our nation has to offer.”
The government’s strategy focuses on introducing innovative solutions, improving tourism infrastructure and fostering international partnerships to open new avenues for growth.
In an interview conducted internally by the ministry, Professor Ranasinghe said that the aim of this collaborative approach is to create a resilient and competitive tourism ecosystem that can adapt to the evolving needs of global tourists. Highlighting the socio-economic potential of tourism, Professor Ranasinghe emphasized how the industry can drive both economic and social progress.
“The transformative potential of tourism in driving both economic and social progress is immense. Initiatives such as training programs, small business funds and cultural preservation projects will further integrate citizens into the tourism value chain.”
In line with these goals, Sri Lanka has set a target of attracting five million tourists by 2030. The focus is not only on increasing the number of tourists, but also on improving the quality of the tourism experience, with an emphasis on emerging trends such as MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) tourism and leisure (Business + Leisure) tourism.
According to Professor Ranasinghe, this is a collective mission that unites Sri Lankans and invites the world to join hands to help create a legacy of success, empowerment and global recognition.
