Production on the new HBO TV series of Harry Potter will begin in summer 2025 at a UK studio.
The show will be filmed at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire, where the 8 Harry Potter films were filmed.
Warner Bros.’ streaming service Max said the new, decade-long series will be a “faithful adaptation of the great books” by author JK Rowling.
According to HBO, 32,000 children auditioned for the lead roles after an open casting call in September, which will include a brand new cast.
On Thursday, Max posted to X: “Wands are ready.
“The upcoming HBO Original Series, #HarryPotter, will begin filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the summer of 2025 and visit Max.”
Warner Bros is the production company behind the original films starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
Grint, 12, applied for the role after seeing a Newsround report about the open casting call.
This year’s telecast calls for applicants to be aged between nine and 11 by April 2025 and resident in the UK or Ireland.
HBO said the casting team was reviewing up to 1,000 tapes a day after thousands of kids applied.
The TV series was announced in 2023, and Max said at the time that it would “lead a new generation of fans filled with the wonderful details, much-loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years.”
The show is expected to have seven series, each season adapting one of the Harry Potter books by JK Rowling.
“Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world,” Max added.
Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylord, who worked on the acclaimed drama sequel, were confirmed as executive producers on the series earlier in the year.
The cast of beloved characters will be announced later, including Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, played by Radcliffe, Grint and Watson respectively.
