Tiran Alles Summoned by CID Over Police Sergeant’s Death

Former Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles has been summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to record a statement regarding the 2023 shooting incident in Weligama, Matara, which resulted in the death of a police sergeant attached to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).

A senior CID official confirmed that Alles has been asked to appear tomorrow (31) for questioning, as investigators suspect he may have knowledge relevant to the case.

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon is also currently in remand custody in connection with the incident.

The shooting took place on 31 December 2023 in front of the W15 Hotel in the Pelena area of Weligama, claiming the life of the CCD sergeant.
