Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has been appointed as the Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) replacing Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Chairman Shammi Silva.

Silva, who was recently re-elected, took over as ACC Chairman just three months ago in December 2024, taking over the position when India’s Jay Shah stepped down from the ICC Chairmanship to become the ICC President.

“It is a privilege to take over as the Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council,” Silva said.

“The steadfast commitment of our member boards to work together has been instrumental in enhancing the reputation of the ACC across the region.” Silva further thanked Shah and expressed confidence in Naqvi’s “capable leadership.”

Meanwhile, Naqvi, who was elected as the PCB chairman in February 2024, said he was “deeply honoured” by the appointment.

“Asia remains the heart of world cricket, and I am committed to working with all member boards to accelerate the growth and global impact of the game,” Naqvi said in a statement.

“Together, we will open up new opportunities, foster greater collaboration, and take Asian cricket to unprecedented heights. I express my sincere gratitude to the outgoing ACC chairman for his leadership and contribution to the ACC during his tenure.”

For Naqvi, it adds another position to an already packed list of responsibilities. In addition to being the PCB chairman, he also serves as Pakistan’s interior minister.
