Six minors and a 19-year-old youth, including a student alleged to be the boyfriend of a 15-year-old schoolgirl, have been arrested in connection with the gang rape of the teenager in the Homagama area.

The arrests followed a complaint filed by the victim’s parents at the Homagama Police Station. Among those arrested are four schoolboys. All suspects are residents of the area and attend schools in the same locality. According to police, five of them are between 15 and 16 years old, while the other two are aged between 17 and 19.

Investigations have revealed that the girl had left home stating she was attending a tuition class but instead met with the student suspected to be her boyfriend. He allegedly took her to a house belonging to a friend, where the initial assault occurred.

Between 9.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m., the girl was reportedly taken to three more houses and subjected to repeated sexual abuse by the group. A motorcycle believed to have been used in transporting her has also been taken into custody.

The victim has been admitted to Homagama Base Hospital for medical examination. The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court today (4 April).
