M.L.M. Rusdi, a 22-year-old who was arrested by the Terrorist Investigation Department (TID) under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), has been granted bail today after being produced before the Attanagalla Magistrate.

Rusdi was taken into custody on 22 March for allegedly pasting anti-Israel stickers on public walls. While the immediate reason for the arrest was allegedly linked to the stickers, police cited alleged extremist activity as the justification under the PTA.

The court ordered his release on bail with a condition to report to the police by signing on the last Sunday of every month.

Human rights activists and legal observers have expressed concern over the use of the PTA in cases involving freedom of expression, raising questions about the proportionality of the charges brought against Rusdi.
