Giga is thrilled to announce the launch of its first-ever international photo contest, themed “The Joy of Connection.” Photographers and visual storytellers from across the globe are invited to participate.

The competition seeks to highlight the transformative power of internet access and how it impacts individuals and communities. Giga, a partnership between UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union, works to connect every school in the world to the internet. The initiative recognises the unique role photography plays—especially when shared online—in building understanding and connection across borders.

The contest welcomes entries from photographers of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned professionals.

In conjunction with the contest, Giga is also introducing the Giga Photo Mentorship Programme in Sri Lanka. This week-long initiative will support young people in visually documenting the role of connectivity in their daily lives, families, and communities. The programme is designed to strengthen advocacy efforts by sharing these stories with community members, policymakers, and other stakeholders.

The photographs and personal narratives produced will offer a child-centred, local perspective on digital inclusion. These works will be showcased at a public exhibition on 11 April 2025 in Kandy, contributing to a broader conversation on the importance of connectivity as both a child right and a human right.
