Lohan Apologizes for Drunk Driving

Former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte, who was arrested over a road accident caused while driving under the influence in Kollupitiya, apologized to the aggrieved party in open court today (9).

Ratwatte, who was arrested on 5 December following the incident, had also faced allegations of using an illegally assembled vehicle. He was released on bail for that matter prior to being charged in this case.

The aggrieved party claimed that Ratwatte not only caused the accident but also lashed out at them with death threats following the incident.

When the case was taken up at the Fort Magistrate’s Court, Ratwatte expressed regret for his actions and apologised in court. Lawyers representing the aggrieved party informed the court that Ratwatte had agreed to pay Rs. 1 million as compensation for the damages, and both parties consented to settle the case.

Considering the submissions, the Magistrate ordered Ratwatte’s release on two sureties of Rs 1 million each.
