Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is set to produce the Hindi remake of Tentigo, a critically acclaimed Sri Lankan black comedy that has been making waves internationally. Joining him as co-producer is casting director Mukesh Chhabra, who will mark his debut in film production with this project.

The Hindi adaptation will be produced under Mehta’s banner, True Story Films, in collaboration with Crawling Angel Films, with Hiranya Perera on board as associate producer.

Originally titled Nelum Kuluna, Tentigo gained international recognition after its premiere at the 2023 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Award. It was recently remade in Tamil as Perusu, directed by Ilango Ram, and released in Indian theatres on 14 March 2025. The Tamil version is also currently streaming on Netflix.

The screenplay for the Hindi remake will be written by Karan Vyas, known for his work on acclaimed projects like Scam 1992, Scam 2003, and Scoop. While details about the cast and director have not yet been revealed, the producers have hinted at assembling a strong creative team for the adaptation.

Speaking about the decision to remake Tentigo, Hansal Mehta said that although he is usually not in favour of remakes, this particular story immediately struck a chord with him. He described the original film as “sharp, irreverent, and yet deeply emotional,” and expressed confidence that the Hindi version would connect with audiences across India.
