US Supreme Court Temporarily Blocks Deportation of Venezuelan Migrants

The U.S. Supreme Court early Saturday temporarily halted the deportation of Venezuelan migrants detained under the Trump administration’s use of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. The emergency order follows concerns raised by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) that detainees were being removed without due judicial process, in violation of a previous Supreme Court ruling.

The unsigned decision blocks the deportation of the group until further notice, as the court reviews the legality of using wartime powers to expedite removals. Conservative Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented.

The Trump administration has invoked the rarely used law to deport suspected members of Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang labeled a terrorist organization by federal authorities. Critics argue the migrants have been denied fair legal recourse and adequate notice, raising constitutional concerns.

This pause comes amid legal battles in multiple courts, with civil rights advocates warning of a potential constitutional crisis over executive overreach in immigration enforcement.
