Sri Lanka won the silver medal in the women’s mixed relay event at the Asian U-18 Athletics Championships, setting a new national youth record.
China won the gold medal in the event with a time of 2:11.11 minutes, while Thailand won the bronze medal after finishing in 2:15.00 minutes.
The four-day tournament organized by the Asian Athletics Federation and held in Qatif concluded yesterday (18) with the continent’s most promising young athletes.
Sri Lanka performed strongly at this year’s championships, winning a total of eight medals – one gold, three silver and four bronze – to finish 9th in the overall medal tally. Notably, Sri Lanka was among the 19 countries to win at least one medal, the highest number of medals won by any participating country at this year’s championships.
This marks a significant improvement over the 2023 edition, where Sri Lanka only managed two silver and two bronze medals.
China dominated the medal tally with 19 gold, 12 silver and five bronze medals. Japan came in second with three gold, three silver and one bronze medal, while host country Saudi Arabia came in third with three gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
