Prime Minister Harini Amarayriya, in her official Easter message, extended heartfelt wishes to Christians in Sri Lanka and around the world while reaffirming the government’s commitment to truth, justice, and accountability in relation to the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

“As Christians in Sri Lanka and around the world celebrate the resurrection of Christ, we are reminded of the enduring power of hope, renewal, and compassion,” the Prime Minister stated, emphasising the importance of unity and resilience in the face of adversity.

Marking the fifth anniversary of the coordinated bombings that killed over 260 people on 21 April 2019, Amarayriya acknowledged the deep pain still felt by victims’ families and the wider Christian community. “Today, six years later, the pain remains, and so does our responsibility,” she said, adding that the government stands in solidarity with all those seeking answers.

She assured the public that ongoing investigations into the attacks remain a top priority, with an emphasis on ensuring transparency and delivering justice without delay. “Accountability, transparency, and genuine justice are essential to honouring the memory of the victims and restoring public trust,” she noted.

In concluding her message, Amarayriya urged the nation to move forward with strength and unity, calling for a future where dignity, equality, and justice are upheld for all Sri Lankans.
