The International fair & Cultural Extravaganza 2024 held at Good Market, Racecourse, Colombo 07 on Saturday 07 December 2024 provided a truly international experience celebrating diverse cultures, cuisines and crafts. Themed on sustainability, the event enthralled the participants with its colorful activities and country stall presentations.
The second edition of this annual event was inaugurated under the chairmanship of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Mr. Vijitha Herath, Deputy Minister of Industries, Mr. Chaturanga Abeysinghe and Ministry Secretary, Mrs. Aruni Ranaraja.
Organized by the Ministry in association with the Sri Lanka Foreign Service Association (SLFSA) and the Diplomatic Corps, the event featured a host of activities including an international food and craft exhibition, country parade, cultural performances, singalong session, raffles and raffles. Dedicated children’s corner. The Minister, along with the Deputy Minister of Industries, senior officers and SLFSA officials visited each booth to engage participants and participants.
The evening segment was enhanced by the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, who participated in the fashion show that highlighted sustainability and ethical fashion. Four Sri Lankan designers Buddhi Batiks, Kelly Felder, Celine and Osu Vastra showcased their collections. Members of the diplomatic corps including High Commissioners and Ambassadors added a unique charm to the event by exemplifying sustainable and ethical planning.
The Cultural Show further enriched the program by presenting a vibrant celebration of global cultures. Traditional and modern music, dance and performances from Asia, Africa, America, Europe and Australia provided a tapestry of cultural diversity.
The International Fair and Cultural Extravaganza 2024 was held with the dual objectives of promoting cultural exchange and raising funds for charity. It will remain a platform for Colombo-based foreign missions to showcase and share their rich heritage through music, art, fashion and culinary delights while fostering community engagement.
Proceeds from the event went to M.H. Omar Liver Care Facility at North Colombo Center for Ragama Liver Diseases in Sri Lanka.
