Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickremerathna has announced the appointment of a three-member committee to investigate the conduct and behaviour of MP Dayasiri Jayasekara during a parliamentary session on 20 May.

The committee will be chaired by Deputy Chairperson of Committees, MP Hemali Weerasekara, with Minister Vijitha Herath and Chief Opposition Whip Gayantha Karunatilake serving as members.

A complaint has been submitted to the Speaker of Parliament against MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, accusing him of violent and disrespectful conduct during the parliamentary session held on 20 May.

The complaint was lodged by Minister Anura Karunatilake and MP Dharmapriya Wijesinghe, along with MP Dr Kaushalya Ariyaratne. According to the letter, Jayasekara disrupted proceedings by deliberately misrepresenting standing orders and behaving aggressively, particularly after being questioned by Dr Ariyaratne and Leader of the House Bimal Rathnayake.

The MPs claim that following this exchange, Jayasekara acted in a “highly insulting and threatening” manner, even approaching the area where the chamber’s microphone operators work and verbally intimidating the staff.
