The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced that the special 24-hour one-day passport issuing service will officially come to an end on 30 May 2025.

This expedited service, which has been in operation since 18 February 2025, was introduced to accommodate high public demand and streamline urgent passport issuance. With the conclusion of this temporary measure, the department will return to standard operational hours for the one-day service.

Starting from Monday, 2 June 2025, passport applications under the one-day service will only be accepted between 7.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. at the department’s head office in Battaramulla. This revised schedule applies to all one-day applicants, including those who have pre-booked appointments or have urgent travel needs.

Normal service applications will also be accepted during the same hours at the head office, while both normal and one-day services will continue at regional offices from 7.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m., as per usual.

The department urges applicants to plan accordingly in light of the change.
