Teen Admitted to Hospital with Stomach Pain Revealed to Be Pregnant; 52-year-old Man Arrested

A 14-year-old girl who was hospitalised due to abdominal pain has been found to be pregnant, according to medical examinations.

Reports state that the girl, a resident of the Kelburne Estate in Haputale, was admitted to the Diyatalawa Hospital by her parents last night (31 May) after she began experiencing severe abdominal pain.

Following a medical examination, doctors discovered that the girl was pregnant, the Haputale Police confirmed.

After recording a statement from the girl at the hospital, police arrested a 52-year-old man in connection with the incident.

Haputale Police stated that the suspect is due to be produced before the Bandarawela Magistrate’s Court today (1 June).

Further investigations are being carried out by the Haputale Police.
