The Met. Department also stated that heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm was likely in some areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts.

Several spells of showers were expected in the Northern province and in the Anuradhapura district.

Meanwhile, strong winds ranging from 50 to 60 kmph were likely at times over the western slopes of the central hills and across the Northern, North-central, Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district.

The general public was advised to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
