The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced a 15% increase in electricity tariffs. The decision was revealed a short while ago.

There will be no changes to electricity tariffs for small-scale consumers and religious institutions using less than 90 units.
However, households using less than 30 units will see an 8% increase. As a result, the fixed monthly charge will rise from Rs. 75 to Rs. 80, effective from midnight today.
For the 30–60 unit category, the unit charge has increased by Rs. 2, raising the per-unit cost to Rs. 8. Consequently, the total monthly bill for this category will increase by Rs. 10, now amounting to Rs. 210.
Consumers in the 61–90 unit category will experience a maximum increase of Rs. 240 in their monthly bill.
For those in the 121–180 unit range, the increase is capped at Rs. 840, while users consuming over 180 units will see a maximum hike of Rs. 2,220.
Accordingly, household electricity tariff revisions range from Rs. 20 to Rs. 2,220 depending on consumption.
Religious institutions using more than 180 units will not see an increase in their fixed monthly charges, although the per-unit rate will rise.
In the industrial sector, for users consuming over 300 units per month, the unit charge will increase by Rs. 4, and the monthly fixed charge will rise by Rs. 50.
For large-scale industries, hotels, and public enterprises, the fixed charge will remain unchanged at Rs. 5,000, while the monthly demand charge will increase by Rs. 100.
