The Kalutara Crime Investigation Division reports that the main suspect arrested over the fatal attack on a local electricity worker has claimed the killing was the result of an accident.

The victim, Sugath Prasanga, an electricity department employee of the Kalutara Pradeshiya Sabha and father of two, was at his home in Panapitiya, Kalutara, when a group armed with sharp weapons broke in during the early hours of 7 June. The intruders forced entry, attacking Prasanga in front of his two children and fatally slashing him. His wife also sustained injuries from a sword strike before the assailants fled the scene.

Following investigations led by Inspector P.R. Weerasekara of the Kalutara Crime Investigation Division, officers reviewed CCTV footage from the area. This led to the arrest of the main suspect, a resident of Meneritanna in Kalutara.
