The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has recorded a statement from a senior official of the Ministry of Justice regarding the incident of a prisoner’s release from Anuradhapura Prison through the unlawful misuse of the presidential pardon.

Reports confirm that the statement was given following a summons by the CID.

Meanwhile, the CID has deployed officers to 28 prisons across the country to conduct investigations into allegations of prisoners being released illegally by misusing the presidential pardon in recent times.

In connection with the release of the prisoner at Anuradhapura Prison, both the prison superintendent and the Commissioner General of Prisons have been placed under custody at the remand prison for further inquiry.
