Priyantha Godagama Sahabandu, who was appointed as the Deputy Mayor of the Galle Municipal Council representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), has had his party membership suspended.

This was announced in a statement issued under the signature of SLPP General Secretary and Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam.

The statement further notes that disciplinary action will be taken against him.

According to the SLPP, party members were given clear instructions regarding the procedure to be followed during the voting to elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Galle Municipal Council.

However, the statement claims that Priyantha Godagama Sahabandu acted in violation of those instructions during the vote, leading to his election as Deputy Mayor.

As a result, his SLPP membership has been suspended with immediate effect, and he loses all rights to positions and responsibilities within the party.
