Sri Lanka Police have launched investigations after three unidentified male bodies were discovered in separate locations across the country on Wednesday (2 July).
The first body was found on the beach at Olaithoduwai, within the Mannar Police Division. Police said the man was in an unrecognisable condition and was wearing blue shorts and a blue and red striped T-shirt. The body has been placed at the Mannar Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination, while efforts are underway to identify the deceased and determine the cause of death.
The second body was discovered in a tea estate in Kotiyagala, under the Bagawantalawa Police Division, following a tip-off received by police that afternoon. The deceased is believed to be around 73 years old and was wearing a black jacket and a red and grey striped sarong. He was partially bald with white hair. His body has been moved to the Trincomalee Hospital morgue as investigations continue.
Later that night, a third unidentified male body washed ashore at Mount Lavinia beach. Police said the man was dressed in a light blue long-sleeved shirt and vest, along with black trousers and a black belt. The body was taken to the Kalubowila Hospital morgue.
