The son of model and actress Piumi Hansamali, who was arrested by the Welikada Police in connection with an alleged assault on a three-wheeler driver following a traffic accident in the Kalapaluwawa area of Rajagiriya, was released on bail yesterday (13) by Colombo Additional Magistrate Mohamed Rizwan.

The suspect, identified as Kavinga, was granted release on a personal bail of Rs. 500,000.

According to police submissions, a friend of the suspect, Piumi Hansamali’s son, had been riding a motorcycle in the early hours of 13 July when it collided with a three-wheeler in Rajagiriya. Following the incident, the suspect and several others had reportedly arrived at the scene and assaulted the three-wheeler driver, initial investigations revealed.

The injured driver is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. Police also informed the court that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other individuals involved in the assault.

It was further revealed that the suspect is a 15-year-old minor. After considering the submissions made by both the police and the defence counsel, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be released on bail.
