The husband of Tamilini Satheesan, the late Assistant Divisional Secretary of Chavakachcheri in Jaffna, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on suspicion over her death, police confirmed yesterday (19).

Tamilini, who was six months pregnant at the time of her death, reportedly died in a fire on 15 February 2025. According to her husband’s statement to the police, she caught fire while asleep at home after a mosquito coil accidentally fell onto her.

However, family members raised suspicions regarding the circumstances surrounding her death and lodged a complaint with the Kopay Police. The case was subsequently handed over to the CID for further investigation.

Following a series of inquiries conducted by the CID, the husband was taken into custody on suspicion and brought to Colombo last night (19) for further questioning.

Investigations are ongoing.
