A draft bill seeking to repeal the Presidential Entitlements Act No. 4 of 1986—which grants special privileges to former Presidents and their families—will be presented to Parliament for approval, following Cabinet approval for its gazetting.

According to the government’s policy statement “A Prosperous Country – A Beautiful Life,” the move aims to eliminate the exclusive benefits currently extended to former heads of state and their families.

The Cabinet granted approval on 16 June 2025 to draft the bill, and the Legal Draftsman has since prepared the Presidential Entitlements (Repeal) Bill. The Attorney General has also issued clearance for the draft.

The Cabinet has now approved a proposal by the Minister of Justice and National Integration to publish the draft in the Government Gazette and subsequently present it to Parliament for consideration and approval.
