A shocking hit-and-run incident near Hinidumgoda Junior College in Galle has left a 40-year-old mother severely injured after she was struck by a motorcycle ridden by a 15-year-old school student.

The woman had been standing by the roadside near the school, waiting to pick up her children, when the motorcycle suddenly veered off and hit her, severing her leg below the knee. Eyewitnesses at the scene recognised the rider as a student from the area and immediately went to his home, prompting swift police intervention.

In a disturbing twist, the severed part of the woman’s leg had become entangled in the motorcycle. The boy, who fled the scene, later discarded the detached limb in a nearby bush. It was recovered by local residents based on information provided by the student.

The woman is currently receiving treatment at the Galle National Hospital and is reported to be out of danger. The student has been taken into police custody, and further investigations are ongoing.
