Three police constables attached to the Maradana Police Station have been suspended from duty following their arrest over suspected ties to a known drug trafficker.

The officers were taken into custody after evidence emerged linking them to a suspect who was arrested on 23 July by the Colombo Central Division Criminal Investigation Unit. The suspect was found in possession of 11,320 milligrams of the illicit drug known as ‘ice’ (methamphetamine).

During the investigation, officers discovered that the suspect’s mobile phone contained phone numbers and recorded audio data allegedly involving the three constables. This led to their arrest on suspicion of aiding and abetting drug trafficking activities.

The constables, aged 22, 30, and 32, are currently under further investigation by the Colombo Central Division Criminal Investigation Unit.
