President Anura Kumara Dissanayake requires enhanced security and should even use a helicopter if necessary, said Minister K. D. Lal Kantha.

Speaking at an event held in Kandy, Minister Lal Kantha stressed that regardless of any criticism, the President must be provided with robust protection. However, he noted that the President himself is not particularly enthusiastic about such high-level security arrangements.

“Whatever anyone says, the President needs strong security. Personally, I don’t think he should be travelling like this [with minimal protection]. He needs even greater security than what he currently has,” Lal Kantha said.

The Minister added that there is always a team accompanying the President wherever he goes, and this is unavoidable. “If one tries to portray that as sticking to old methods (during previous times), let it be known those are not outdated views, but necessary precautions,” he remarked.
