Sri Lanka’s export sector posted a strong performance in the first half of 2025, signalling resilience and renewed momentum in both goods and services. According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, total exports during the January–June period amounted to US$ 8,337.86 million — a 6.7% increase compared to the same timeframe in 2024.
The export sector continued its upward trajectory in June 2025, with combined merchandise and services exports reaching US$ 1,460.34 million, reflecting an 8.73% year-on-year rise from June 2024. This growth underscores the success of ongoing efforts to strengthen Sri Lanka’s global trade presence and diversify its export base.
Merchandise exports in June alone stood at US$ 1,150.73 million, up 6.85% from the previous year, based on provisional data from Sri Lanka Customs, which also factors in estimates for gems and jewellery as well as petroleum products. For the six-month period, merchandise exports reached US$ 6,504.72 million, marking a 5.86% increase from the corresponding period last year.
Services exports, however, emerged as the standout performer, playing a pivotal role in driving overall export growth. In June 2025, earnings from services exports were estimated at US$ 309.61 million. Over the first half of the year, this segment saw a 9.78% increase, with total earnings reaching US$ 1,833.14 million.
