Retired Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Priyantha Jayakody was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) this evening (28) over allegations that he orchestrated a threatening scheme targeting himself.

Jayakody is accused of conspiring to send threatening messages to himself through a third party in a premeditated operation, while allegedly using the alias “Kehelbaddara Padme.”

Following his arrest, Priyantha Jayakody reportedly claimed he was unwell and has since been admitted to Ragama Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment under police custody.

He had previously lodged a complaint with the police, claiming he had received threatening phone calls. In response, the Welisara Magistrate ordered the CID to initiate an investigation into the reported threats.
