Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Janaka Tissakuttiarachchi today (29) offered an unconditional apology to President and then National People’s Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

The apology comes in relation to a defamation case filed by Dissanayake against Tissakuttiarachchi and another SLPP member, following comments made during a political rally.

Dissanayake through the LoD, sought Rs. 10 billion in damages for alleged defamatory remarks.

The case pertains to a public meeting held by the SLPP on 19 August 2023 in Central Colombo, during which Tissakuttiarachchi allegedly claimed that Dissanayake had “invested five billion in Malta.”
