Veteran journalist Daya Lankapura is tipped to be appointed as the new Chairperson of Sri Lanka’s Right to Information – RTI Commission, filling a long-vacant position.

The post has remained vacant since the retirement of former Chairperson, retired Supreme Court Justice Upali Abeyratne. The delay in making the appointment has drawn criticism from media rights groups and civil society organisations, who argue that the absence of a head has weakened the Commission’s effectiveness in safeguarding the public’s right to access information.
